The whole process
1. Copy the Niconico link

Use the address bar or the platform's own share button — both give a URL the extractor recognises. Point it at the single item you want, not the page around it.

2. Let it read the renditions

No, and that is deliberate. Niconico gates private material behind a signed-in session; we fetch as an anonymous browser and hold no credentials, so we see exactly what a logged-out visitor sees. If a post needs a follow request to view, it needs one to download.

It reads the rendition list Niconico publishes for that item and takes the highest progressive one — a single file with video and audio already muxed, so nothing has to be recombined afterwards. It never re-encodes, so it cannot give you a quality Niconico did not publish.

Not usefully. A running stream has no end yet, so there is no finished file to hand you. Wait until Niconico publishes the replay or VOD — at that point it behaves like any other item and downloads normally.

Region locking. Parts of Niconico are only served in certain territories (JP), and the platform decides that per request. The extractor targets those regions where it can, but a hard geo-block on the platform's side is the platform's decision, not something we can talk it out of.
