Two routes, one box: Tiktok posts and Tiktok streams
Tiktok links arrive in two shapes and we route them differently. A post or album URL goes to the gallery extractor, which walks the attached files; a stream URL goes to the media extractor, which negotiates renditions. Paste either and the right one picks it up. Tiktok is one of the broader integrations here — 7 distinct link shapes are handled rather than a single canonical one. Tiktok also carries live output, and a stream still in progress has no final file to give you yet. The renditions we see from Tiktok arrive as MP4.

The order of operations
1. Grab whichever Tiktok link you have
A post link and a stream link are both fine here — they take different paths internally and you do not have to care which.
2. Paste and let it route
The URL shape decides the route: album-style Tiktok links go to the gallery extractor, stream-style links to the media extractor.
3. Collect what came back
A post can return several files and a stream returns one. Either way nothing was re-encoded on the way through.

Tiktok is wired into both extractors. A post or album URL goes to the gallery route and returns the files attached to it; a stream URL goes to the media route and returns one negotiated rendition. Same box, different machinery, decided by the shape of the link.
Not usefully. A running stream has no end yet, so there is no finished file to hand you. Wait until Tiktok publishes the replay or VOD — at that point it behaves like any other item and downloads normally.
Among others: collection, effect, live, sound. Those are separate URL shapes with separate handling behind them, which is why a link that looks nothing like the last one you pasted still works.
Whatever the URL names. A single-item Tiktok link returns that item; a collection or feed URL returns what the collection holds. If you got more than you expected, you pasted the container rather than the item.
MP4 — whatever Tiktok itself serves. The container is passed straight through rather than rebuilt, so there is no second round of compression between the platform's copy and yours.
