Because Aryion is handled by the gallery route. It enumerates the files attached to the post or album you pointed at instead of picking one, so a post with eight images returns eight images. If you only wanted one, link the individual item rather than the container.

No, and that is deliberate. Aryion gates private material behind a signed-in session; we fetch as an anonymous browser and hold no credentials, so we see exactly what a logged-out visitor sees. If a post needs a follow request to view, it needs one to download.
