One Imgur URL can mean one item or a whole feed, and that distinction matters more than it looks. Paste the single-item link if you want exactly that item; paste the feed or collection URL if you want what it contains. Both resolve, they just resolve to different things. The URL shape decides the route: album-style Imgur links go to the gallery extractor, stream-style links to the media extractor.
A post can return several files and a stream returns one. Either way nothing was re-encoded on the way through.
