The Listennotes link is resolved by our media extractor. It asks Listennotes for the list of renditions it publishes for that item, takes the best progressive one and streams it through to you as the audio file. Nothing is transcoded on the way, so quality is whatever Listennotes encoded at. Listennotes publishes real audio renditions, so an audio request there is a copy rather than a re-encode. Listennotes leans towards half-hour-plus items, so downloads there are measured in minutes rather than seconds. No credentials are involved anywhere in this path — neither yours nor ours.
