The process, start to finish

Picarto links arrive in two shapes and we route them differently. A post or album URL goes to the gallery extractor, which walks the attached files; a stream URL goes to the media extractor, which negotiates renditions. Paste either and the right one picks it up. Only where Picarto publishes an audio rendition of its own. The extractor takes what the site serves and re-encodes nothing, so on a platform that ships audio muxed inside the video stream there is no separate audio file to hand you — you get the stream that carries it.
