The Prankcast link is resolved by our media extractor. It asks Prankcast for the list of renditions it publishes for that item, takes the best progressive one and streams it through to you as the profile file. Nothing is transcoded on the way, so quality is whatever Prankcast encoded at. Prankcast routinely carries items over an hour long, which makes file size the practical limit rather than speed. The renditions we see from Prankcast arrive as MP3. No credentials are involved anywhere in this path — neither yours nor ours.
